Living in Great Staughton

Great Staughton is just over the border in Cambridgeshire, about ten miles north-east of Bedford, midway between St Neots and Kimbolton. Around 900 people lived here at the 2011 census, and the River Kym runs through the parish.

It’s really two places. The Highway runs along the B645, the old A45, while The Town, the historic heart of the village, is half a mile down the lane towards Little Staughton. Both are conservation areas. In The Town you’ll find St Andrew’s Church, Grade I listed with a late 13th-century chancel, and opposite it Place House, built in 1539. There was a Roman villa in the parish too.

Great Staughton Primary Academy is on The Causeway, with a nursery and pre-school on site. The White Hart is a 17th-century coaching inn, and the Snooty Tavern is on The Green.

The 28A bus runs to Bedford via Little Staughton, and St Neots, with its station on the East Coast Main Line, is a short drive. It suits families who want a village school and countryside, with the A1 close by.
