Living in Wilden
Wilden is one of the smallest villages we cover, with just under 400 people at the 2011 census. It’s north-east of Bedford, in farming country between Ravensden and Colmworth.
The Church of St Nicholas is Grade I listed and dates from the 14th and 15th centuries, and there are five more listed buildings in the parish. The Baptist chapel on Great Barford Road was probably founded in 1806 and still holds services.
For a village this size, the school is a real asset. Wilden CofE Primary School can trace its history back to the 17th century. It’s small, with a pre-school attached, and has been extended several times since the 1970s. There’s a village hall, but no pub any more.
The 28A bus runs to Bedford from Monday to Saturday, though most people here drive. Wilden suits anyone who wants somewhere genuinely rural, especially families after a small village school.
