Living in Biddenham

Biddenham is about two miles west of Bedford town centre, close to the A428. The old village is a conservation area, centred on St James’ Church and Main Road, and it has a far older past than its tidy streets suggest: Palaeolithic finds have turned up at the Deep Spinney site.

It’s one of the best-served villages around Bedford for schools. St James’ CofE Academy is on Main Road, St Joseph’s and St Gregory’s Catholic Primary is at Biddenham Turn, and Biddenham International School and Sports College, the former John Howard Upper School, has a sixth form.

For downtime there’s the Three Tuns, a thatched, Grade II listed pub with a big garden, refurbished in 2022, and a sports pavilion with cricket and football pitches. The private Manor Hospital is here too. Bromham Bridge, the old crossing over the Ouse, is partly in Biddenham parish.

The 41 bus runs between Bedford and Northampton. Biddenham suits families who want good schools and a village setting without being far from town.
