Living in Lidlington
Lidlington is in the Marston Vale, about eight miles south-south-west of Bedford and three and a half miles from Ampthill, between the A421 and the A507. It’s a village of around 1,350 people with over 500 homes, and it’s in the Domesday Book.
Like much of this area it was once part of the Duke of Bedford’s estate, and the Duke built its unusual Gothic-style church in 1845. The Green Man on the High Street is a thatched, Grade II listed pub with 17th-century roots, a large garden and a real fire in the front bar.
There’s a village hall, a general store, a hairdresser and a farm shop on the A421. The recreation ground has all-weather tennis courts and football and cricket teams, and the run club meets every Monday evening. Thomas Johnson Lower School is the village school. For more space, Brogborough Lake is good for birdwatching, fishing and paddleboarding, and the Greensand Ridge long-distance path runs nearby.
Lidlington station is on the Marston Vale line, with hourly trains to Bedford and Bletchley from Monday to Saturday. There’s no regular bus, so it suits people who’ll use the train or drive.
